Cycling: Local Shops That Can Help You Get Started

With all of the parks and trails located throughout the Nature Coast, it should be no surprise that bicycling is one of the most popular hobbies throughout Citrus County.

Since the Villages of Citrus Hills is located right near the 46-mile long Withlacoochee Trail, there are quite a few residents who enjoy spending a lot of time out on the trails.

Residents that already have their own bicycles tuned up and ready to go are all set to hit the trails, but anyone just looking to get started with this fantastic exercise hobby might need a little guidance to get started. That’s where the local bike shops can help…and there are quite a few to choose from!

No matter what level of experience you have, the following five bike shops are the best place to start!

Inverness Bicycle & Fitness, Inverness

Inverness Bicycle & Fitness is one of the popular bike shops for residents of the Villages of Citrus Hills because of its location close to both the community and the Withlacoochee State Trail. They are a locally owned store, so there is a good chance that Danny, the owner, will be the one helping you with your cycling needs.

This is the perfect spot for a beginner to get started by renting a bike for the day. They also offer a full line of bicycles for sale, and can handle just about any level of repairs you might need.

The store is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm, and they stay open until 6 pm on Fridays.

David’s World Cycle, Inverness

As much as we prefer to shop at and promote small, locally owned businesses, there is no denying that David’s World Cycle in Inverness is where it’s at when it comes to selection and expertise. This used to be a little shop known as Suncoast Bicycle Plus, but since it became a David’s World Cycle location, the selection has dramatically increased.

In addition to having a great selection of new bicycles, you can also find all kinds of gear and clothing here to make sure you fit right in out on the trails! They are open 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, and then from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Blue Run Bicycle, Dunnellon

Heading north to Dunnellon, you will find Blue Run Bicycle, which is owned and operated by local resident Grant Chance and his staff of experienced cyclists. The focus is completely on the customer at Blue Run Bicycle. They offer a solid selection of new bikes and a service department that is second to none.

If you are interested in exploring the northern parts of Citrus County and the Withlacoochee State Trail, this is the perfect base to operate from. They are open from 9 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday, and then from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday.

Hamptons Edge Trailside, Floral City

While Blue Run Bicycle might be the experts on the northern end of the county, the southern portion of Citrus County and the Withlacoochee State Trail belong to Hamptons Edge Trailside in Floral City. This local community bike shop specializes in recumbent bicycles and carries all of the most popular brand names.

If you are looking for a great customer service experience with your next purchase, rental, or service request, owner Regis Hampton and his staff would be happy to help you! They are open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.

Even More Bicycle Shops

If you make your way through all of these local bicycle shops and still haven’t found exactly what you are looking for, the next step is to head to Ocala, where you will find quite a few large bicycle shops that are filled with both inventory and helpful experts. Santos Trailhead Bicycle Shop, Greenway Bicycles, Ocala Bicycle Center, and Top Gear Bicycles to name a few, all come highly recommended.

Whether you are brand new to cycling, picking it back up after a long sabbatical, or have always been a passionate cyclist, there are bike shops located throughout Citrus County that can help you find exactly what you need.
