Pizza Party: Our Favorite Local Slices In Citrus County

In any given day, more than 40 million Americans will eat pizza. It is considered the most popular meal in the world.

Here at the Villages of Citrus Hills, we are fortunate to be surrounded by dozens of excellent pizza places.

Of course, the closest pizza option for all of us is actually the flatbreads you will find on the menu at our very own Tiki Bar. They serve a Hawaiian Flatbread that comes with pineapple, shrimp or chicken, and barbecue sauce, as well as a Chicken & Bacon Flatbread that comes with chicken, bacon, and spinach on top of an Alfredo sauce.

The Tiki Bar flatbreads offer delicious variations on the classic pizza, but if you are looking for more options around Citrus County, these are the local places we recommend checking out!

Angelo’s Pizzeria

In order to be fair, we put this list into alphabetical order, but it just so happens that the first pizza place we wanted to recommend has a location that is literally right in our backyard on North Essex Ave. They also have a location in Inverness.

When ordering pizza from Angelo’s, you can start with their New York style pie, the Bianco Pizza, or a Sicilian Style pizza and then add whatever toppings you like.

And what’s the best part about ordering from Angelo’s? They deliver!

Brother’s Pizza

Most native New Yorkers will tell you that no one can top their hometown pizza joints. But those same New Yorkers will agree that Brother’s Pizza in Crystal River is about as close as it gets.

In addition to their classic red sauce pizzas with your choice of toppings, you might also want to try the Chicken Club Pizza with a white sauce or the Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe Pizza, which has a Cheddar cheese sauce.

Moschello’s Pizza

Another great option for New York style pizza is Moschello’s in Beverly Hills. This is a no-frills operation that focuses on consistent quality pizza, calzones, and pasta dishes that are all sold at very reasonable prices, which makes Moschello’s Pizza the perfect option for anyone expecting a large turnout for pizza night.

Motor City Pasta Company

What do people from Detroit know about pizza and pasta? Quite a bit according to Nicole and Joe Romano from Motor City Pasta Company, which is located right up the road in Inverness.

In addition to offering the standard pizza options, Motor City also has an Artisan Pizza menu that features pies like Chicken Venetian, Eggplant and Baby Bellas, Shrimp Mediterranean, and Tuscan pizzas.

Pi on Broadway

If you are looking for a more gourmet style of pizza, the cleverly named Pi on Broadway in Ocala should definitely be the first option on your list. Just look at some of their creative options:

Sonora - Refried black beans, pulled chicken, mozzarella cheese, avocado relish, and cilantro-creme drizzle.
Lana’l - Pulled pork, carmelized pineapple, onion, Papaya BBQ sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
Genovese - Walnut-basil pesto, roasted chicken, goat cheese, and mozzarella cheese.
Creole Pi - Peppery red sauce, blackened chicken and shrimp, okra, and mozzarella cheese.

The Pizza Joint

You might not expect to find a gourmet pizza restaurant attached to a gas station in Dunnellon, but you’ll find exactly that at The Pizza Joint. Everything here is cooked in a wood-fired oven, which give everything a unique texture and flavor.

One option that really jumps off the menu here is their Hot Hawaiian, which starts with a spicy marinara sauce that is infused with Sriracha. It is then topped with bacon, ham, pineapple, and fresh Jalapeños.

And these are just a few of our favorites!  Whether you’re craving a flatbread, a traditional New York style pizza, or one of the more unique varieties of pizza available, your cravings will not go unmet in and around the Villages of Citrus Hills.

Buon Appetito!
