As we roll into the month of August, the summer season is beginning to wind down and we will soon be preparing for another fall season.
However, summer is not quite over just yet!
Make sure that you get the most out of our remaining summer afternoons by spending them with friends at the pool, or even on a day trip to the beach.
If you are looking for something to do to close out your summer, here are some of the great activities and events going on around the Villages of Citrus Hills this month:
Social Events
If you have ever thought of yourself as a singer, you can put those skills to work at The Grille on Tuesday, August 5. Debbie G. will be hosting Karaoke Night from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
This month’s Movies on the Green event will be held on Friday, August 8 at the Skyview Golf Driving Range. The movie being shown this month is “Philomena” starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan. The range and concession stand will open at 8:00 pm with the movie starting about a half hour later.
Golf fans will definitely want to attend the PGA Open Cookout event at the Tiki Bar on Sunday, August 10. The event will take place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm as the PGA Championship comes to what will hopefully be an exciting finish. Dinner will feature New York Strip, Corn on the Cob, and Red Skin Potatoes.
Anyone with a background in education is invited to the Educators Social at the Tiki Bar on Tuesday, August 12 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. This will be a great chance to meet people with similar backgrounds and discuss topics that educators are passionate about. Everyone attending is asked to wear a conversation starter!
If you are a fan of live rock music, the Rock Steady Band will be playing at the Tiki Bar on Thursday, August 14 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The Trivia Challenge is back this month on Tuesday, August 19 in the Hampton Room. The menu will include Strips of Pepper Steak, Seafood Newburg, Rice Pilaf, and more. Following dinner, members and guests will compete to answer a wide variety of challenging trivia questions!
The most lively and energetic party of the month just might be Copacabana Night in the Hampton Room on Friday, August 22.
Dinner will feature Cuban Pulled Pork, Chicken and Peppers, Black Beans, Yellow and White Rice, Cuban Bread, and Cheesecake.
There will also be live music and entertainment from Havana Pete and The Havana Boys. The cash bar opens at 5:30 pm, and dinner will be served at 6:30 pm.
The Chick Chat Social Luncheon will take place on Friday, August 29 this month in the Garden Room. Lunch will be Italian Sausage and Pepper Sandwiches and the speaker will be Michele Wirt, who is the founder and president of the Citrus Cultural Alliance.
Sports & Recreation
Anyone new to golf will want to start out the month of August by attending the Free Beginner Clinics that Citrus Hills is hosting on Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6.
More advanced golfers will want to attend the Free Intermediate golf Clinics at Citrus Hills on Tuesday, August 12, Tuesday, August 19, and Tuesday, August 26. All of these clinics will start at 11:00 am.
There will be a Tiger Mixer at The Meadows course at Citrus Hills on Thursday, August 7 starting at 3:00 pm. There will also be a Bonnie & Clyde Couples Mixer on the same course at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, August 13.
The Brentwood Golf Course will be hosting their Beat the Heat Tournament from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Sunday, August 24. You can choose your own foursome or let the Pro Shop pair you. Your entry fee also includes pizza and beer.
The Duffer’s Mixer will be closing out the month of August on Sunday, August 31 on the Meadows Course at Citrus Hills at 3:30 pm. This is a great mixer for beginning golfers who are looking to improve their skills and meet other golfers at similar skill levels.
Dinner Specials
As always, there are lots of great dinner specials available throughout the month. If you are a Prime Rib lover, you will want to check out the Prime Rib Dinner for 2 special at The Grille every Wednesday and the Prime Rib Feature at Skyview every Thursday.
Every Thursday in August will be Fiesta Fajita Night at The Grille. Starting at 5:00 pm, guests will be able to order Chicken Fajitas and Steak Quesadillas. There will also be great specials on Corona and Monster Margaritas. If this isn’t enough Mexican food for your appetite, Skyview will be hosting South of the Border Night on Tuesday, August 26.
Tuesday, August 12 will be Asian Night at Skyview. This dinner will consist of an Asian Side Salad, Wonton Soup, Steamed Pork Dumplings, and your choice of Asian Chicken Salad, Pepper Beef, or Ponzu Seared Salmon Filet. Sake and Beer will also be included.
One of the most impressive dinner specials all month will be the Awesome August Brunch that Skyview is hosting from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 31. The unbelievable spread at this event will include Smoked Salmon, Shrimp Cocktail, Leg of Lamb, Belgian Waffles, and Omelet Station, and all of your other breakfast favorites.
As you can see once again, there is no shortage of great activities and events to keep you busy around the Villages of Citrus Hills this month. Make sure that you don’t miss out on the fun that all of these great events are sure to bring to the month of August!
