Best Places To Watch The Sun Set Near The Villages Of Citrus Hills

They say that no two sunsets are ever the same. Whether it's the colors, the clouds, or the scenery each one has something unique about it.

One of the best things about living along Florida’s Gulf Coast is that we get the opportunity to watch the sun set over the water to our west every night.  It’s an ever changing wonderful work of art.

In order to take advantage of these amazing sunsets, we thought it would be a good idea to put together some of our favorite places in Citrus County to watch a sunset. From quiet beaches and tiki bars to nature walks and busy downtowns, there are many different ways to watch a sunset in Citrus County.

Cracker’s Bar & Grill

Since much of the appeal of a Gulf Coast sunset is the idea of being right on the water, it only makes sense that we would have to kick off this list with a great Citrus County tiki bar that is located right on the water.

Cracker’s Bar & Grill in Crystal River has a really fun location for watching the sun go down over the Gulf of Mexico, but they also get bonus points for their tropical environment and delicious seafood. If you are looking for the complete sunset experience, Cracker’s is definitely one place to go.

Fort Island Trail Gulf Beach

Residents that are “sunset purists” will likely suggest that the most unadulterated location to catch a beautiful Gulf Coast sunset in Citrus County is right from the beach at the end of the Fort Island Trail.

This little beach area might be one of the best kept secrets in all of Citrus County, so the odds are pretty good that you can watch the sun set in a semi-private beachfront environment on any given night.

Peck’s Old Port Cove

Another perfect option for a sunset dinner is Peck’s Old Port Cove, which is located near the end of the long and winding Ozello Trail. The drive out to Peck’s is definitely a part of the experience, as you will see lots of untouched natural beauty along the way.

Once you arrive at Peck’s, you will be treated to excellent service at their delicious seafood restaurant with a casual atmosphere. And all of that is just leading up to the gorgeous sunset views from their waterfront dining room.

Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

If you would like to combine a little wildlife and nature with your Gulf Coast sunset, the best place to do that is definitely going to be Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. Not only is this the best place in all of Florida to get up close and personal with manatees, they also have great views of the sunset.

The park is open all year round, but since it closes at 5:30 pm, you won’t be able to catch any sunsets here during the summer months. But during the winter, the sun will start to go down right around closing time!

Fort Cooper State Park

Not all of the best sunsets in Citrus County are located right on the water. Fort Cooper State Park in Inverness is a beautiful, natural setting, where you can watch the sun go down between the trees. There are plenty of picnic areas here that make perfect spots for a romantic dinner followed by a sunset stroll.

Downtown Inverness

You can also watch a sunset from an inland location right from the Courthouse Square in downtown Inverness.

This could be just a quick few minutes in between shopping and dinner in town, or you could make it the highlight attraction by planning an entire evening around the sunset. Either way, watching the sun go down over one of Citrus County’s favorite towns is always a beautiful experience.

You Don’t Even Have to Leave the Neighborhood

The lanai at Skyview Restaurant gets our vote for best place to watch a sunset in the Villages of Citrus Hills, followed by the outdoor deck at the Tiki Bar while sitting around the fire pits with your favorite beverage in hand.

Best part? You don’t even have to leave the community!
